SmartStop Self Storage - Vancouver

Have received the 3rd price increase in just over 1 year at SmartStop. Initial move-in was good - informative and helpful, though the price had already increased the moment I stepped in the door. On the phone I was quote one price and when I came in to look at the unit, the price jumped due to an 'error' - whether manufactured or not, I was already in the door. So price went from $135-150 quoted on the phone (if I recall correctly) > $176 (price for different floor, same size unit) > $222 > and now $246. While the unit size I rented was the same but on different floors, the price *had* to increase. Now over a year in, the price has increased a 3rd time (the second was expected as promo ended). I didn't get the 30 day notice of price change as it's physical mail delivered and I have an old address on file. To remedy this I asked to change the address on file but was told this can only be done through a form being mailed out... I'm travelling (whole point of the storage unit) and its difficult to update my address through physical mail as I don't have a mailing address. As for the storage unit - its clean, temperature controlled, and easy access in. This part I'm happy with. The customer service has its bright spots, but some pricing and policy issues soured the experienced a bit. ** Edit Update: received a reply from 'owner' to call a number to discuss. I called and no one on the other end had any idea why I was calling. They checked with their team but no one called back to discuss. A subsequent call to the local shop was helpful with introduction to an online portal to change payment methods, which was handy. I did not know about this portal prior. Made a billing address change so hopefully this resolves the issue of physical mail notices on rent increases and whatnot.

Rented one unit from Asam (Vancouver facility), and was very pleased with his support and thoroughness. As well, the facility is clean, well lit and safe. I liked it so much that later I rented a second unit (from Marvin). He was also very attentive to my needs, thorough in his approach, and easy to deal with. Good location. Both guys get an 'attaboy'! :-)
